My Goals
After reading the syllabus I have developed a few goals for my learning in the class. I feel that it is important to understand and begin to accomplish the three goals of the classroom. It is important to be able to conceptualize the importance of my teaching philosophy. Right now I am capable of saying “yes this is important” but I am not completely capable of stating why. It is also important to develop pedagogy. Being able to use multiple teaching styles, knowing how to teach within the standards of the state and how to assess knowledge of the standards, and being able to know how children learn are important aspects of teaching to be an effective teacher. I need further guidance to learn these aspects so that I can become the best teacher I can be. Another goal set by the class is engaging in continuous self-assessment. A lot of times I find doing this and writing about self-assessment to be boring or a waste of time, but in the long run being able to critique myself will be an important characteristic to develop. In order for children to get a good schooling, I think it is important for me as their teacher to change my lessons or style of teaching throughout the years to get the best learning environment possible. Another goal I have is to relearn the basic terms for literacy… such as phonics, fluency… I do not feel I got a firm handle on these in 301, so trying to learn these concepts will help me. I would also like to learn more about lesson planning in terms of literacy. I feel that most of the classes I have been in are more concept based, and there is less emphasis on how to incorporate things within a classroom.
